The Pharaoh Hound is one of the oldest domestic dog breeds in the world dating back to 4000 BC in Egypt. Ancient Egyptian writings tell us that the Pharaoh hound was not only a great hunter but also an intelligent and loyal companion of the royal pharaohs. This graceful and extremely fast sighthound that we know today is raised in the Mediterranean Island of Malta (Maltese Islands south of Sicily). The Malta's primarily use the Pharaoh Hound as rabbit hunters. Pharaoh Hounds have a keen hunting ability using a combination of scent, sight and speed.
